What is U.S. Paralympics?
U.S. Paralympics, a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee, is dedicated to becoming the world leader in the Paralympic sports movement and promoting excellence in the lives of people with physical disabilities. 

What does U.S. Paralympics do?
Since its formation in 2001, U.S. Paralympics has been inspiring Americans to achieve their dreams.  Through education, sports programs and partnerships with community organizations, medical facilities and government agencies, U.S. Paralympics is making a difference in the lives of thousands of physically disabled people every day. 

Who does U.S. Paralympics serve?
U.S. Paralympics sports programs serve individuals with physical and visual disabilities.  There are more than 21 million Americans living with a physical or visual disability, but less than 10% of them are physically active.

Why is it important for people with physical disabilities to be active in sports?
Physical activity enhances not only self-esteem and peer relationships, it also results in increased achievement, better overall health and higher quality of life.

How do I get involved in a Paralympic sports program?
U.S. Paralympics is working to create 250 community-based Paralympic sports programs across the country by 2012.  You can locate programs and activities in your area by visiting the Paralympic Activity Network.

What are the Paralympic Games?
The Paralympic Games are elite sports competition for athletes with physical and visual disabilities.  Held in the same year, the same city and same venues as the Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games are the second largest sporting event in the world.  The term "Paralympic" means "parallel to the Olympics."

What is the difference between Paralympics and Special Olympics?
The Paralympic Games are elite-level sports competition for athletes with physical and visual disabilities only.  The Special Olympics are open to all competitors with cognitive and mental impairments.

How do athletes with different physical disabilities compete against one another?
Athletes competing in Paralympic sports are divided into different classifications, which are based on a combination of factors including a person's disability and the amount of physical function they have when competing in their chosen sport.  Sport specification information about classification can be found in the Sports section of this website.

How can I get classified?
