Wheelchair basketball classification is based on sport-specific tests of shooting, passing, rebounding, pushing and dribbling, rather than a medical diagnosis or muscle function examination.
The classes range from 1.0 to 4.5 increasing in increments of 0.5. Higher classification numbers represent more physical function, while lower numbers represent less function. The total point value of players on the court at one time cannot exceed 14.0.
